CableLabs DOCSIS Keys and Certificates

DOCSIS Security

The Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification, commonly known as DOCSIS and developed by CableLabs, is a telecomunications standard used to provide high-speed internet access via cable television systems. As the backbone of many internet service providers (ISPs), DOCSIS plays a crucial role in delivering reliable and fast internet to millions of homes and businesses worldwide. Consequently, the importance of security in DOCSIS cannot be overstated.

PKI is a critical component of DOCSIS security, enabling mutual authentication between the cable modems and cable modem termination systems (CMTS). By leveraging digital certificates and public-private key pairs, PKI ensures that only authorized devices can access the network. This mechanism helps prevent unauthorized access and maintains the integrity of the DOCSIS network.

CommScope is a long-term partner of CableLabs. CommScope PKI Center has been providing DOCSIS keys and certificates to many DOCSIS product vendors since 2001. CommScope certificate authorities for DOCSIS 4.0/3.1/3.0 and DPoE have been WebTrust-audited and approved by CableLabs to issue certificates to all vendors for cable modems, remote PHY/MACPHY devices (RDPs & RMDs), and EPON ONUs. We provide multiple levels of DOCSIS credentials provisioning services, from simple key and certificate generation to fully managed in-factory provisioning.
